Denktas: I Will Struggle Leaning Upon Anatolia

On EU membership Denktas told Hurriyet, “There is an approach that, entering EU will improve Turkey. I do not object to it. But there is a kind of pressure here to accept everything, including the Annan Plan, in order to enter EU. Diplomats of the EU countries are also aware of their mistakes. They say that they would protect our rights. And when I ask what those rights are, they say that they are the rights of a raised and protected minority. We are not a minority. We are the founder partner of a joint republic.”

On the approaching elections, Denktas said, “The opposition can only get 30% of the votes. However, if they get sufficient votes to be the government, they would want me to withdraw from the talks. At that point I would leave everything and restart to struggle leaning upon Anatolia.”
