Ecevit replies to Cem’s unity call

ANKARA (AA) – Former Prime Minister and Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader Bulent Ecevit, in reply to New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem’s call for unity on the left before the coming local elections, said today that if Cem and his colleagues had been sincere in uniting left, they would not have divided DSP just before the last national elections, adding that he did not find this proposal for unity worthy of an answer.

TURKEY FACES A SERIOUS REGIME PROBLEM

Speaking to Education Union representatives, Ecevit said they were aware of cronyism and activities to undermine the secular order of the country performed by the government and that the first place the government tried to undermine was the education sector.
