Drug As Finance Source Of Terrorism

The report noted that increasing number of drug addicts, high profit margin, terrorist activities and changes in political structure of world closely affected production of narcotic drugs and routes of smuggling.

According to report, as long as there is a demand for drugs, destroyed drug organizations would be replaced by new ones in a short time because gaining large amount of money from the production of drugs is an attractive element for organizations.

The report emphasized that terrorist organizations directed towards the transfer and production of drugs to finance their activities. Terrorist organizations are taking share from the money gained by production, transportation and distribution of drugs and some terrorist organizations, which want to carry on these activities, are choosing the countries that are unstable politically and where they produce drugs illegally as their activity zone.

According to report, drug trafficking affects the whole world and this turned to an intercontinental type of crime, instead of being a problem special to each country.

Turkey is located on three main routes which are used for drug transfer and those routes are Balkan, Northern Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean Routes, noted the report.

The report stated that Balkan Route starts from hashish planting regions of Southwest Asia and is divided into two legs in Balkan Peninsula by passing over Iran and Turkey. One of these legs is European countries via Bulgaria-Rumania-Hungary-Austria and the second one is Italy via Turkey and Greece.

According to report, Northern Black Sea Route has two different paths and drug reaches to Western Europe markets by starting from Afghanistan and passing over Central Asia Republics, Russia, Ukraine and Belarous which is the first path. The second path starts from Afghanistan and passes over Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Russia and ends in Western Europe.

The third route of drug traffic starts from Pakistan ports and it covers Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Suez Canal, Cyprus and Western Europe.

The report noted that Turkey is making cooperation for launching operations against international drug organizations with some countries such as Austria, the United States, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Russia.

The report pointed out that various researches were made regarding drug organizations and that drug smugglers were carrying on their activities especially in Germany and the Netherlands.

Report said, ”leading drug families and organizations are researched to reveal and destroy their activities. The researches showed that families are forming monopolies in drug issue and becoming more professional and making their structures more systematic. According to intelligence analysis, today, drug organizations, which are active in Germany, are generally comprising of our citizens who are registered to our Eastern provinces.”
