Two Third Of Higher Ranks Were Renewed

The duties or ranking of Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok, Ground Forces Commander Aytac Yalman, Gendarme General Commander Sener Eruygur, Second Army Commander Fevzi Turkeri, and Aegean Army Commander Hursit Tolon did not change.

According to the decisions, 32 generals and admirals serving in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) were promoted to a higher rank and 46 colonels were promoted as generals. The tenure of 44 generals and admirals were extended and 54 admirals and generals retired.

Second Chief of General Staff Yasar Buyukanit was promoted as the Commander of the First Army; NATO South Eastern Europe Joint Forces Commander Oktar Ataman promoted as the Commander of the Third Army; and Chief of Ground Forces Staff Ilker Basbug promoted as the Second Chief of General Staff.

MGK Deputy Secretary General Fethi Tuncel is appointed as the Chief of Ground Forces Staff after being promoted as Full general. Orhan Yoney became the Commander of NATO South Eastern Europe Joint Forces. Sukru Sariisik became the Secretary General of MGK.

First Army Commander Cetin Dogan, Third Army Commander Tamer Akbas, and MGK Secretary General Tuncer Kilinc retired by August 30, 2003.
