Turkey and Syria have agreed to resume water talks

The two countries agreed that the discussions would seek to form a joint venture to implement the Southeastern Anatolia project in Turkey. Similar efforts a decade ago were hampered by Syria’s demand for water rights to the Euphrates River.

Officials said Turkey has not agreed to share the Euphrates. But the government of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan intends to develop a water policy with Syria in an effort to develop the border areas.
