D.N.A. Test Will Be Made On Turkish Martyrs in Cyprus
When reporters recalled him the news that ”people of Taskent village were asking the Greek Cypriot side to make DNA tests on Turkish martyrs buried in that side”, Denktas said that relatives of Taskent villagers who had been subject to massacre in the past were getting prepared to file a lawsuit against the Greek Cypriot government demanding compensation.
Asking TRNC people not to behave individually and wait for the result of their initiatives, Denktas said that they had to act jointly to get the desired outcome from their efforts.
Asked about his views on that much philanthropic behaviors of the Greek Cypriot side, Denktas said, ”the Greek Cypriot side is trying to show that Turkish Cypriots recognize the Greek Cypriot government. Turkish Cypriots are individually getting identity cards and passports and trying to settle the issue of martyrs in that side. The reason for all these is to reflect the image that ‘there are not any Turkish Cypriots who want state in Cyprus.’ But, they are mistaken. Because, people who act in an undisciplined way for their personal issues are not people who refuse their state. They are people who are faithful to their state as I am.”
Denktas announced that relatives of villagers of Taskent who faced massacre of the Greek Cypriots during the Cyprus Peace Operation launched an initiative to file lawsuit against the Greek Cypriots and hired lawyers.
”They want to get compensation. They will firstly apply to the Greek Cypriot government. If they don’t get any satisfactory response, they will apply to the European Court of Human Rights,” Denktas pointed out.
Denktas stated that ”those who made the massacre were known and they made massacre under knowledge of the authorities.”
There were many publications and evidence about that, Denktas noted.
Denktas said, ”we hope the Greek Cypriot government will rapidly respond to the compensation demand of these people and the issue will be settled.”
Asked why they had not taken action in those issue so far, Denktas said, ”don’t forget. The doors were closed, and also there were political contacts. And, everybody awaited a result from those contacts. Everybody waited for a result in issues like missing people and compensations. Now, the doors are open. Turkish people can apply to Greek Cypriot courts and they can search for their rights.”
