Party Supporting Terror Can’t Exist
The Court’s decision was summarized as follows. ‘According to the constitution, everybody should be considered Turkish as long as they have Turkish citizenship. This does not deny ethnic identity, but makes people equals and prevents ethnic groups from becoming second-class citizens. What is important is not race, but being part of the national community. Political parties can’t break up the country by dividing the nation into its minorities, provoke people by appealing to their ethnic roots, or oppose the leaders or the people of the nation. HADEP authorities said in various speeches that the Kurds are a different nation from the Turks, that Kurds are subjected to oppression and cruelty, that there is a war between the PKK terrorists and Turkey, and that the Kurds should be on the side of the terrorists in this war. To incite people by claiming that they are from another nation, to supply personnel to a terrorist group, and to encourage people to watch MED TV—a tool of propaganda for a terror organization—shows that HADEP has relations and is in solidarity with the PKK terror organization.’
