Anti-Turkish Demonstration in Southern Cyprus

At the rally in Elefteria’s (Freedom) Square, attended by about 3 000 participants, banners with Turkish writing were raised and chants of “peace cannot be prevented in Cyprus”, in Turkish, could be heard.



Greek Cypriot youth holding Greek and Republic of Cyprus flags of Greece convened in the meeting area after a parade by Greek Cypriot women who lost family members in 1974.



The Greek ambassador to Nicosia and all Greek Cypriot political party leaders, except DISI attended the rally. Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopulos delivered a speech.


Speakers denounced the Turkish “invasion” and called for an end to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ (TRNC) occupation on the island.
