Turkish Citizens’ Distress to get German Visa
The AFP stated that Turks have to spend one or two nights out in the street to get a German visa. The AFP highlighted the case of a 45 year-old old Turkish citizen, Ali Levent, who camped outside of the German consulate in Istanbul for three nights. He came from Trabzon, 570 kms. from the German Consulate. Levent, who just wants to visit his relatives in Germany in the company of his nephew, says, “This is my second time here, and each time I come, I face the same difficulties.”
The AFP describes the distress experienced by the applicants in front of the consulate building. The agency states that men and women, and children and the elderly are all waiting to apply for a visa. People passing by look and pity them.
The AFP reported the comment of a waiter, 30 year-old Deniz Iyigoren, who was waiting in line with his wife and his mother–in-law to get her residence permit: “I have never slept outside before in my life. I feel like the Jews in ‘Schindler’s List’.”
