Greek Cypriot Authorities Stir up Trouble
Former residents of the village visiting Ucsehitler, are being denied entry because of the proximity of a Greek military unit, ne-and-a-half-kilometers outside the village. This, in spite of agreement initiated by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Cabinet on April 23, granting free passage. The Turks, who visited the village previously, said that the mosque, a school and houses in the village had been destroyed and that the graveyard was being used as a field. Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot officials arrested a Turkish-Lebanese citizen living in Lebanon. Gulsevin Sah and her two children, who entered Cyprus at Larnaka Airport, were detained in for 24 hours before being deported. Turkish Cypriot outrage at the incident was voiced in the Politis daily, which reported that Sah was confined in a room for 24 hours and deported regardless of her family, who had arrived to meet her at the airport.
