Adidas Moves its Production From China to Turkey

The company has already begun to produce for Adidas. Chairman of Serten Textile Co. Ertugrul Ustunbicak said that they were producing various textile products, the bulk of the order being one million T-shirts. He said that since SARS emerged in the Far East, firms that didn’t have any market problems were given an important opportunity to grow. Ustunbicak said that big corporations no longer preferred Hong Kong, which, until recently, had been the biggest textile center. Ustunbicak added: ‘We heard that Adidas, which we are producing for, at our factories in Istanbul and Konya, had halted its productions in Hong Kong due to SARS. Waiting for a while due to the stocks it has, Adidas turned to Turkey, the second biggest textile producing center after the Far East. Adidas preferred Turkey, among its many producers worldwide, for the first big order. As Serten Textile, our share of the order is an extra 200,000 T-shirts, to be produced monthly."
