Government aimed to complete and pass the sixth EU Packages …

The Foreign Minister said that more packages could be put on the agenda after the sixth package. Gul was giving the opening speech at a seminar jointly held by the Human Rights Presidency of the Prime Ministry, the European Council and European Commission – an initiative aiming ‘to inform society about human rights and democracy’.

Promoting human rights and democracy should not solely be connected to EU integration, but, a process that Turkey – as a country having a strong past, should already have undergone, Gul said. ‘We are all aware of the delay. Necessary measures should be taken immediately’.

He stated that government was not bothered by speculations about the package. Transparency and open forums on every subject were necessary in democratic societies and that was the reason for calling a general assembly meeting on the EU issue, he added.
