Controversial EU Turkey Report to Be Amended
As a result of discussions conducted yesterday within the commission, the draft, which according to some deputies "proved that it was filled with mistakes with the submission of 283 modification proposals" and that it "broke the record for modification proposals" will be reviewed again at a commission meeting in Strasbourg on May 12.
A coordination team working in cooperation with Oostlander will decrease the number of modification proposals, combine them according to content and seek an agreement between various political groups. It has been suggested that the draft be submitted for approval to the European Parliament Council on June 2 if it is accepted by the commission on May 12. Oostlander admitted that removing expressions about Kemalism from the draft was inevitable due to the letters and reactions he received, but he reiterated that he was against the so-called Armenian genocide allegations contained in the draft.
