Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi urged the US and Iran on Tuesday to reach a final agreement through dialogue, emphasizing the need for de-escalation in the Middle East.

Takaichi made the remarks during a 20-minute phone call with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, where both leaders discussed rising regional tensions and the importance of maintaining stability, according to a Japanese Foreign Ministry statement.

Takaichi stressed that preserving a ceasefire and ensuring the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz are critical priorities.

The Japanese leader also expressed appreciation to Qatar for its support in safeguarding Japanese nationals amid the crisis, while conveying sympathy over recent losses in the Gulf state.

For his part, the Qatari Emir underscored the importance of resolving disputes through diplomacy and affirmed Qatar’s readiness to cooperate with Japan and other partners to stabilize the situation.

Both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in energy cooperation and to maintain close coordination as efforts continue to ease tensions in the region.
