Türkiye, Ankara: Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reached the final stage of a $1 B agreement to develop a 1,100-MW solar power plant with energy storage in the Bor district of Niğde Province, Türkiye’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced.
Bayraktar said the project is being developed in partnership with UAE-based renewable energy company Masdar, following a meeting with CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi and his delegation in Ankara.
In a statement shared on Türkiye-based platform NSosyal, Bayraktar noted that the project represents one of the largest renewable energy investments between the two countries and a key step toward Türkiye’s 2053 net-zero emissions target.
The discussions also covered potential collaboration in offshore wind power, HVDC transmission, and pumped-storage hydropower, along with opportunities for technology transfer in the clean energy sector.
“We aim to deepen our strategic cooperation with the UAE in renewable energy through an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding,” Bayraktar said. “These partnerships will help strengthen our infrastructure and energy vision while setting an example of transformation in our region.”
Once completed, the Niğde solar project will become one of Türkiye’s largest solar installations, reinforcing the country’s shift toward sustainable and secure energy generation.
