Turkey – Factors To Watch on March 18


Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.

The lira USDTRY traded at 36.6650 against the U.S. dollar at 0341 GMT, after closing at 36.6220 on Monday.

The main BIST 100 share index XU100 closed 0.2% higher at 10,862.14 points on Monday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Hong Kong shares rose to three-year highs and led Asian markets higher on Tuesday as investors turned positive on the outlook for the world’s second-biggest economy and cheered recent data and promises to further support consumption.

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will attend a ceremony commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Ottoman victory in naval operations in the Dardanelles campaign during World War I (0900 GMT). He will then attend a groundbreaking ceremony for a highway in northwestern province of Tekirdag (1130 GMT).

FOREIGN MINISTER

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is in Geneva with the other stakeholders in the Cyprus conflict, Britain and Greece, to meet the UN secretary-general and the two Cyprus leaders to discuss the future of stalled peace talks over the divided island.

PARLIAMENT

Main opposition CHP (1030 GMT) and pro-Kurdish DEM Party (0945 GMT) will hold their weekly meetings in parliament.

TREASURY AUCTIONS

The Treasury will reissue a three-year CPI-indexed bond due on December 15, 2027, and a five-year fixed coupon bond due on September 12, 2029.

BANK POZITIF

Turkey’s Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) took over the management of Bank Pozitif, the BDDK banking watchdog said on Monday, as part of a legal investigation into its majority stakeholder related to betting sites.
