The preparation of the port of Rhodes to welcome the particularly increased number of visitors from Turkey was the subject of the meeting between the President of the Rhodes Hoteliers’ Association, Yannis Papavassiliou, and the President of the Port Fund of the Southern Dodecanese, Vasilis Vagianakis (photo).
The President of the Association, who recently participated in the international tourism exhibition EMITT in Istanbul, informed that, according to forecasts, the number of visitors from Turkey is expected to double this year, both through day visits and through the seven-day express visa program.
In this context, Mr. Papavassiliou stressed the need for:
Immediate improvement of the port’s infrastructure so that it can respond to the increased volume of visitors.
Strengthening human resources for faster and smoother service of visa checks and arrivals.
Removal of seized customs vehicles from the port area which creates an image of abandonment.
Beautification and upgrading of the port’s reception areas so as to create a welcoming environment for visitors.
Immediate assignment of two customs storage areas, located in the port, for the creation of modern visitor reception facilities.
For his part, Mr. Vagianakis assured that funds have already been secured for the improvement of the port areas and requested the assistance of the Hoteliers’ Association in accelerating the procedures.
The Rhodes Hoteliers’ Association expressed its commitment to contributing in every possible way to ensure an excellent reception experience for visitors from Turkey. At the same time, the need to avoid the delays and problems that had been observed in previous tourist seasons was underlined, thus strengthening the image of Rhodes as a top destination.
