We Fought Together, Let Us Live Together

Now we want to live under the same roof, for the same values of freedom and democracy. "

Before attending the summit of EU, P.M. Tayyip Erdogan wrote a letter to Europeans, which was printed today by the Bild newspaper.

The letter of Erdogan began, "My European Friends, I find a clarity of minds, of vital importance. Because my people who have sent its children to war under the NATO to die, is expecting to live together with its European friends, under the same roof, for the same freedom and democracy values.

"The basic principle of EU has been unity with diversity. I do not find only inconsistent but also dangerous to try to exclude Turkey from the union saying that it has a different religion and culture from Turkey.

Because stress on differences, might cause polarization… EU has to think not only today but 10-2220 years later. The decision to be made on December 17 is not related only with the political reforms made by Turkey. This decision will bear cues of the role and identity EU assigned to itself.

"Turkey’s sole expectancy from EU is to be availed an opportunity to support its reforms and to encourage them. I believe till the end, in the potential of the potential of change and improvement of the Turkish people. ..I have no doubt that the young population of Turkey, its economic dynamism, will bring an advantage to the EU economies…I trust in the common sense of all member countries. I wish a world of welfare, peace and freedom to the European people. "

Both Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul flew to Brussels implicating that they might desert the table if they faced impossible conditions. Erdogan said before his departure that "We can not say Yes to everything. Mutual persuasion efforts will continue until the last moment.

If they impose unacceptable conditions, we shall freeze this business."

Foreign Minister Gul said, "Our expectation from EU, is rightful and legitimate."
