Russia’s Putin, the Super Guest of Turkey

The objective will be laying an oil pipeline from Black Sea to the Aegean Sea, to lessen the burden on Turkey’s Straits whose annual oil load has been 135 million tons in 2003.

Ankara does not favor the Trans-Thrace project of Russia, saying that these project will make the Aegean riskier. Ankara will tell Moscow in the talks that "Our Straits can not carry that much burden. Istanbul faces a big risk. Its major portion might turn into ashes in a big accident. We are trying to protect Istanbul."

If Turkey and Russia agrees, the Blue Stream project including an under-water passage beneath the Black Sea, will extend to Israel. The Russian natural gas delivered from Russia to Samsun will then be delivered to Israel through a pipeline beneath the Mediterranean Sea.

During the visit, Russia will also promote its Kamov-50 delicopters in Turkey.

Putin is expected to talk about the fundamentalist terrorists who were captured with Turkish passports.

Presidents Sezer and Putin will sign a joint declaration aimed at deepening the multi-faceted relations between the two countries.

The 24-hour Ankara visit of Putin which is taking place upon the invitation of President Sezer, will launch a new period in the relations of the two countries.
