Erdogan Warns Cheney: Felluce Angers Muslim World

Erdogan spoke to Cheney by telephone yesterday and warned that the behavior of US troops at mosques in particular has aroused indignation in Turkey and the Muslim world.

Erdogan discussed the Turkish citizens that have been killed in Iraq and asked that security measures be tightened. He also expressed his concern about demands to cancel elections in Kerkuk (Kirkuk).

Cheney said he understood Erdogan’s sensitivity about the wounded insurgent killed in the Fallujah mosque and said the issue was under investigation. He said he also understood Turkey’s concerns about the murdered Turkish citizens and the Kirkuk elections and would share them with both US President George W. Bush and Iraqi authorities.
