If Turkey Behaves Equally, Negotiations Start
Papadopulous shared his thoughts on an interview given by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Greek NET television. Papadopulous disclosed that Erdogan’s statement saying that he received a promise from Papadopulous not to veto the starting process of negotiations formed one part of the talk they had in Dublin last May.
"As a principle, we do not have any objection to the EU starting participation negotiations with Turkey on the condition that Turkey behaves and acts with the same responsibility to Cyprus as it does to other EU countries."
In a statement made at Larnaka Airport upon his return from Estonia, Papadopulous claimed that the United Nations (UN) paid money to the Greek side to get a "yes" regarding the Annan Plan in the referendum. According to Greek newspapers, Papadopulos said that a letter sent to him by former United Nations (UN) Special Envoy Alvaro De Soto was written before the referendum money was distributed, because the UN and others thought that the Annan Plan’s improvement was a double-national issue and needed to be strengthened.
