Morals Constabulary in Samsun Turkey

Samsun, one of the biggest cities of Turkey that is at the gate of EU, experiences a surprising practice. A 9-person-constabulary team of the municipality is patrolling on the coastal road and warning the couples sitting on the banks, rocky and lawns, by saying, "Sit properly!"

Cemil Taflan, the chief superintendent of constabulary, claims that they introduced such practice in order to prevent the girls fleeing from school to wander with the boys. However, Republican People’s Party deputy Ilyas Sezai Onder says, "This is not the business of constabulary. Were they inspired from the adultery discussions?"

The patrolling officials warn the ones lying on the lawns or talking under the trees at Dogu Park, by saying, "It may be misunderstood. Sit on the banks!" However, some couples feel ashamed after these warnings and immediately leave those places.

Samsun Municipality Secretary General Kenan Sara admitted that the constabulary was warning the ones performing "inappropriate" behaviours and said that they were only warning the ones inappropriate with the public morals and the ones drinking alcohol.

Bureaucrats of the Interior Ministry talked with the municipal authorities in Samsun, after the scandal erupted. However the municipal authorities denied having such a practice.
