Pierre Lequiller, a deputy of the People’s Movement Union Party (UMP) — a party that does not support Turkey’s membership bid — will investigate the efficacy of reforms in Istanbul, Ankara, Kars and Elazıg. Before their trip, the UMP delegation received members of a Turkish civilian society organization. The organization briefed the UMP on Turkey’s reform efforts.
On Monday the French officials will meet with the Istanbul Latin Assembly leader Louis Paletre and the Turkey Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV).
On Tuesday the delegation will meet privately with Hakan Altinay, the General Manager of the Open Society Institute of Turkey.
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will visit with the delegation on Wednesday in Ankara along with General Ilker Basbug. The delegation will meet with officials from the civil society organization as well.
