TRNC Begins Trade with Greek Cyprus

The Cypriot Turkish Chamber of Commerce issued certificates to applicants. All goods sent to the Greek side either to trade with the Greeks or other countries need to be manufactured either in TRNC, or have a value added duty. So far, eight Turkish citizens have applied to dispatch textile and furniture goods as well as fruit and vegetables. It was announced that dispatching of goods would start in with EU.

It is forbidden to sell live animals, animal products and animal feed to Cypriot Greeks.

The Green Line Regulations are particularly important in terms overseeing the competition between TRNC goods and goods from the Greek side. Exporting TRNC goods to the EU via South Cyprus will not be easy considering duties and Value Added Taxes (VAT). With regard to Turkey’s membership, the Greek leader Tasos Papadopoulos said, "Our basic policy is not to use our right to veto".
