TRNC FM Denktas sends a letter to Papadopoulos

TRNC Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas sent a letter to Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos on Saturday, and made a complaint against Greek Cypriot Education Minister Pefkios Georgiades.

Criticizing Georgiades who said earlier that Greek Cypriot authorities could finance restoration of the school and meet necessary equipment, Denktas said, "TRNC cannot accept such a statement. TRNC Ministry of Education and Culture has been given authority to restore the school building and carry out all kinds of preparatory works for opening of the school in the 2004-2005 semester."

"The list of teachers, who will work in the school, constitutes another problem. The Greek Cypriot side conveyed an unofficial list of teachers to the TRNC side. However, the Greek Cypriot side is obliged to inform the TRNC side officially," he said.

"Despite all our good-will and positive initiatives, negative attitude and misleading statements of the Greek Cypriot side have constituted a serious obstacle in front of our efforts for opening of the school in the coming semester. We hope that the Greek Cypriot side will assume a more constructive and cooperative attitude," Denktas added.

TRNC Council of Ministers decided at its meeting on August 4, 2004 to open a secondary school for Greek Cypriot students in Karpaz in addition to the existing primary school.
