Turkish olive oil promoted in China

In an interview with the A.A, Turkish Foreign Trade Undersecretariat Department of Exports Deputy Director General Yavuz Mollasalihoglu said that Turkish olive oil would make a valuable contribution to efforts to remove the current commercial imbalance between Turkey and the People’s Republic of China.

Recalling that Turkey was one of the most important olive oil producers in the world with an annual production of 200 thousand tons, Mollasalihoglu said that they would support all cooperation initiatives between Turkish and Chinese firms.

Meanwhile, the bilateral trade volume between the two countries climbed 89 percent to 2.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2003 over to the previous year.

Exports from Turkey to the People’s Republic of China rose 95 percent to 332 million U.S. dollars while imports from this country to Turkey increased 65 percent to 1.42 billion U.S. dollars in the January-May period of 2004.
