France Dubs Sharon ‘Persona Non Grata’

Paris scorned Sharon’s statement encouraging Jews living in France to return to Israel because of what Sharon called rising anti-Semitism in France. "Unacceptable" said the French administration, as they demanded an explanation from Israel.

French President Jacques Chirac disclosed that Sharon would not be welcome in Paris from then on. The French Presidency yesterday sent a message to Sharon that his possible visit to Paris, although there is no certain date yet, would not be met with pleasure.

In addition, French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said that he did not want to make a statement that would deteriorate the issue. Barnier emphasized that French waits for the statement demanded from Israel.

Bariner disclosed that people in France have equal rights regardless of their religious preferences. He said the statement to come from Israel was a matter of honor.
