Israel Complains about Iran to Al Baradei

On Wednesday, Baradei met with the Gideon Frank, the president of the Israel Atom Energy Institution. The IAEA President said the Israelis were worried about Iran’s possession of nuclear weapons and the risk that they may attack Israel’s territories. However, Baradei emphasized that the Agency did not have any clear information as to Iran’s readiness for such an attempt.

Israel is maintaining its policy of ‘uncertainty’ about its nuclear weapons. It is the only country in the Middle East that did not sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iran, the target of Israeli accusations for having nuclear weapons, has signed the NPT, however. There is an imbalance among Middle Eastern countries concerning security, Baradei said and the IAEA regards it as a double standard for Israel to hold nuclear weapons. Baradei said they expect Israel to sign the NPT as well.
