Kerkuk Boils; Many Dead
According to Turkmen sources in northern Iraq, a group of Iraqi Shiites attacked the Kirkuk governor’s office yesterday evening. Bodyguards of the Kirkuk governor and some American soldiers are among the casualties. Yesterday’s attack particularly discomforted Arabs and Turkmen because they thought the Kurds were being protected in the reconstruction in the region.
Meanwhile, a Turkmen and an Arab lost their lives during a quarrel over a field yesterday; two Turkmen were wounded in the incident.
It was also reported that there was an armed conflict between US and Kurdish soldiers in Kirkuk. While witnesses did not give any information about the event, there is not believed to be any loss of life.
American troops also bombed the Tuzhurmatı region yesterday.
