Gul Warns Playing With Kerkuk is Dangerous

The Foreign Minister warned: “This issue concerns not only Turkey but all the other neighboring countries. We are conducting a careful study of Kirkuk. We follow closely the developments. We investigate the accuracy of rumors in the region. Turkey’s reaction will be clear to the movements to create an actual situation there. Playing with Kirkuk, I am clearly stating, is dangerous.”

When asked if he warned the U.S. about Kirkuk, Gul replied, “All required attempts are being made on this issue.” He stressed that initiaties that would cause Iraq to disintegrate would result in instability and added that the country’s resources belong to the Iraqis.

In the statement made on his return to Ankara from Saudi Arabia, Gul said that Turkey received great support from the Saudis on the Cyprus issue and said an anti-terrorism agreement would be signed between the two countries soon.
