Three-Way Bargain on Cyprus

The guarantees demanded by the leading Greek Cypriot party AKEL included:

– Let the UN Security Council endorse the Annan Plan.
– Let army sales to Cyprus be totally banned, along with the implementation of the agreement.
– Let the UN Security Council decide that the articles 41 and 42 of the UN Convention be put into effect in case of the violation of the United Cyprus Convention.

The articles 41 and 42 which Chirstofias demanded to be implemented, cuts all diplomatic and economic relations of UN with the country which violates the agreement and in second phase, takes this country under besiege from the air, land and sea. If these measures fail to produce a result, UN foresees military action to this country. UN had operated this clause on Serbia.

Annan accepted the first two demands of the AKEL leader but rejected the third condition.
