Turkey signs deal with Boeing for four AWACS

Boeing and the state-owned Turkish Aerospace Industry have signed an agreement that defines the amount of work for the Turkish company as part of the Airborne Warning and Control System program. The project, termed Peace Eagle, will also include the participation of other Turkish subcontractors in the $1.5 billion contract.

The accord, signed by TAI general manager Oktay Tezsezen and Boeing AWACS program deputy director Patrick Gill, includes the transfer of technology, the establishment of local production for the AEW project. Under the agreement, TAI would receive $500 million worth of contracts in connection to the AWACS project.

For his part, Tezsezen said three of the four AEW aircraft planes would be configured according to Boeing specifications at TAI facilities. He said the contribution by Turkish defense industry would reach 15 percent.
