Greek Cyprus minister quits over rejection of UN plan

Kazamias, a pro-settlement advocate, is a senior member of the Communist AKEL party, the main coalition partner in Papadopoulos’s government.

"The reason for my resignation is not so much because I disagree with the "no" of the president, but because I was disappointed with the way he analysed the U.N. plan, and the conclusions he made," Kazamias, who said he stepped down on Saturday, told reporters.

In a public address last week, Papadopoulos called on Greek Cypriots to reject the U.N. blueprint which will be put to a referendum on both sides of the divided Mediterranean island on April 24. He focussed largely on the negatives of the U.N. plan, which he said legalised partition.
