If Greek Cypriots vote "no" TRNC should be recognized
ANKARA (AA) – Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Friday that if Turkish Cypriots would vote "yes" and Greek Cypriots would vote "no" in a referendum on April 24 about renufication of the island under the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s auspices, there was no other way recognizing the TRNC and lifting embargo on it.
Holding a press conference with his Banghlades counterpart, Gul stated that in the case of Greek Cyprus’ joining the European Union (EU) alone, then the Union coud face great difficulties.
He added, "But this enterence will be a different one. EU’s approach on the RNC will not be like before." Reminding that referenda would be held on April 24, Gul said that now the Greek and Turkish Cypriots would say the last word.
Gul went on to say, "Everything is clear. Evaluations have to be made in feeling of sensivity."
