Denktas Considers Annan’s Cyprus Plan

Talat emphasized that the important point was the president’s acceptance of the changes. He said that the referendum campaign would only begin after the Annan Plan had been examined on all levels. The Prime Minister noted that a 45,000-person list had been prepared of Turkish-born TRNC citizens.

Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Ugur Ziyal asked for support and explained details of the plan to EU ambassadors. Ziyal met with US ambassador Eric Edelman and British Ambassador Peter Westmacott in the Foreign Ministry Building. Edelman said it was expected that both sides would vote "yes" to the referendum. Turkish diplomatic sources also confirmed that they did not expect the Greek side to vote against it.
