Turkish court sentences four policemen..
ANKARA (AA) – Ankara Heavy Criminal Court on Friday sentenced four policemen to four years five months and ten days imprisonment terms on charges of torturing Hacettepe University student Birtan Altinbas to death in January 1991 when he was under custody. The court also acquitted four other convicts.
The court convicted four policemen Ibrahim Dedeoglu, Sadi Cayli, Suleyman Sinkil and Hasan Cavit Orhan.
The court initially sentenced them to 10 years in prison, but reduced the sentence to four years and five months for good behavior.
Chief Judge Ziya Unal who announced the decision said they decided to sentence Ibrahim Dedeoglu, Sadi Cayli, Suleyman Sinkil and Hasan Cavit Orhan to four years, five months and ten days imprisonment terms.
Unal said they also decided for acquittal of Tansel Kayhan, Talip Tastan, Mehmet Kirkici and Muammer Eti.
