"TRNC may be recognized if outcome of referendum negative"

NICOSIA (AA) – Reportedly, people of Turkish and Greek Cyprus would reject UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s Cyprus plan in a referendum, the TRNC was expected to be recognized except European Union (EU) countries.

If both Turkish and Greek Cypriots rejected Annan plan in a referendum, a second referendum would be held and again a "no" decision would emerge, the TRNC would be recognized by other countries but the EU.

According to the result of a survey in Greek Cyprus, %75.8 declared that they were against Annan plan, but in TRNC "yes" and "no" votes were close to each other.

According to Greek Alithia newspaper, Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) survey company issued a report and it said that in the case of Greek Cypriots’ voting for "no" in first round referendum, a second one would be held and this time they would say "yes." But if Greek Cypriots would reject the plan, then the other countries but the EU would able to recognize the TRNC.

%46.3 against Annan plan

A survey in Turkish Cypriot determined that %40.8 would accept Annan plan and %46.3 would reject it.
