Turk Telekom awards DSL contract to Alcatel

Alcatel will provide 200,000 DSL lines, which will enable Turk Telekom to expand its service coverage in 2000 remote sites throughout the country and to further strengthen its position in the broadband access market by providing increased network capacity and meeting customer demand for improved high-speed Internet access services. The deployment, which will occur in two equal phases, should be completed in 2004.

The contract is based on the Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager, a broadband access platform, and will be managed by Alcatel 5523 DSL Work Station Element Management system. The system will enable Turk Telecom to bring more customers fast access to information through high-speed Internet connectivity throughout the country.

Alcatel has supplied the majority of Turk Telekom’s core Internet infrastructure network TTnet, 100 percent of its narrowband communications access network, as well as its initial DSL network deployment.
