10 Parties Want Iraqi Elections Postponed

At the home of Adnan Pacaci, a council member in the Iraqi interim government, three Iraqi Ministers, 10 political parties and a number of groups signed a petition that demanded a six month delay of elections

The Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) also signed the petition. No representatives of the National Accord Party, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s party, signed the agreement or attended the meeting.

The Sunni Islamic Party previously declared that unless the elections were delayed, they would boycott the elections.

Abdel Hussein al-Hindawi, Head of the Iraqi Election Commission, announced that he would examine the petition today.
